Feature: Dalmain School Reaches the Nation's Top Flight

Dalmain Primary School in Forest Hill has reached the top 8 per cent of all schools in England according to Ofsted School Inspectors.

The Inspectors were full of praise when they judged the school in Grove Close, Brockley Rise as being 'outstanding' in 6 of the 7 key categories:

Overall effectiveness - Grade 1
Achievements and Standards - Grade 1
Personal Development and Wellbeing - Grade 1
Teaching and Learning - Grade 1
Curriculum and other activities - Grade 2
Care guidance and support - Grade 1
Leadership and management - Grade 1

"We are justifiably proud of our recent inspection," said Chair of Governors Mary Lindsay, "and we are delighted to see Dalmain judged against national standards and be deemed outstanding."
Head Teacher Elizabeth Booth added: "This is a wonderful tribute to the hard work and effort of the children, staff, parents and governors all pulling together."

The report goes on to praise achievements and standards quoting both pupil progress and teaching as 'outstanding'. It says children have 'a zest for learning.are friendly, polite and very proud of their school.'
Dalmain’s pupils say: 'the teachers are excellent and make learning fun', Ofsted’s response is: 'We saw examples of outstanding teaching'. Tasks are well matched to pupil's ability so ALL are suitably challenged and make exceptional gains in knowledge and skills'.

Clubs rate highly with both children and Ofsted. They are well attended and diverse in nature and include brass band, choir, violin, harmonica, guitar, story telling, dance, sport, drama, French, gardening and Art. 'Outstanding care, guidance and support contribute significantly to pupil’s exceptional academic and personal development.'
‘Outstanding leadership and management underpin the school’s success.' Ofsted judges the Head teacher, Mrs Elizabeth Booth, as 'excellent', She 'displays charisma and energy in striving for excellent provision so that all pupils can achieve their potential. She is very well supported by the senior leadership team in raising achievement and in providing high quality education'.
