Mine wasn't emptied and it's beginning to smell a little scary.

I am not sure mine collected Tuesday's. I believe Lewisham Refuse Disposal Operatives are ususually still not outsourced so probably yes.

In our experience the answer was "yes... sort of" - the general household waste people didn't come round but the people who empty the recycling bins did.

I guess this reflects the split in how the different waste collections are organised.

It's funny - our recycling wasn't collected last week but was this week. That's happened a few times - are we getting twice monthly collections by the back door? (actually it's by our front dor)

Our recycling box was emptied but the regular rubbish was not. I live on Brockley Rise.

Ditto in Gabriel Street. Recycling bins were emptied, general rubbish bins not. By coincidence, a friend who lives in North East London said the same happened in her borough yesterday. An international Wednesday-morning-collection-anywhere-binmen conspiracy, perhaps?

What's quite interesting is that on the Lewisham website they say that Brockley would be an area affected by the strike, but do not mention HOP. I guess they've lumped us into the same area for collection purposes.

It seems that in this case, Unison and Unite are responsible for the strike action, and it is affecting other boroughs (e.g. Ealing, Hounslow), but should be back to normal next week if I googled correctly...

Just wait until they go to fortnightly collections .....

This is not beyond the bounds of possibility as recycling increases and has been suggested by other councils.

Wot, not one comment showing solidarity?! We actually did not put our bins out for exactly that reason. It was due to the courage of our forefathers and mothers who challenged the opressive system (that new labour and the tories would love to have back) that gave you much of your freedom and rights that you have today.

To my great disappointment the bins in my part of the People's Republic were emptied yesterday. Baggydave - congratulations for allowing the strikebreakers their thirty pieces of silver for doing no work at all.

Southwark came and emptied mine as usual yet but across the road, the Lewisham bins were left behind...
