Lewisham Cyclists, the group that represents London Cycling Campaign members in the borough, has just set up a volunteer run drop in mechanics project. This is a self help repair workshop, where you can bring your bike, use our tools and get help to mend your own bike. It's not a bike repair shop where you can leave your bike for a mechanic to do the job for you, although we do have a qualified mechanic on hand to assist you, as well, if you need it. We have a good selection of proper bicycle workshop tools, and strong repair stands to make the job easier. There's even tea, coffee and cake!
All we ask in return is a donation for the service of whatever you feel you can afford and we do have to charge cost price plus a few pennies for parts. We only carry basic parts, cables, brake pads, inner tubes, stuff like that, so if you need a more extensive repair or part, please ring us first.
We have three workshops a month, two at the Ringway Centre in Grove Park, but one is in SE23. It's at the Young Lewisham Project at 124 Kilmorie Rd (through the arch between houses) and they run here on the second Wednesday of every month. The first one is on March 11th 6.30pm to 9pm. So, if you have a bike you want to get back on the road now Spring looks like it's on its way, bring it down on Wednesday. Come early, to make sure you have time to complete whatever job needs doing. Feel free to contact us beforehand on lewishamcyclists@gmail.com or 07826559603
