Well, opening wednesday afternoons is hardly "24/7 society gone mad". And are we saying that opening on wednesdays will make FH's shopkeepers less friendly somehow? The wednesday thing is indicative of a certain lack of oomph with some retailers in FH. Most of the footfall is in the mornings and evenings with people going to work and back, and yet try dropping off/picking up dry cleaning, a key, or a prescription at those times. FH must be the only place in london with no shop that's open after 11pm for general food things etc. The presence of sainsbury's means that shops have to be more resourceful to survive, and more flexible opening hours is one way they can do that. I notice that little grocery store opposite the station has closed, which is sad, but every time i went there (for a newspaper on sunday morning, for a bottle of wine after 10pm) he was closed.
