PStaveley,
Do you know if they have sorted out the fare structure yet? In other words, will Forest Hill - New Cross Gate now be a TfL zonal fare instead of a National Rail Fare? Will the fare to London Bridge remain the same?
Also, what about Freedom Passes? Will they now be valid all day or just after 0930 as is currently the case?

How simple is the interchange between the East London Line and Jubilee Line at Canada Water?
If it's anything like the interchange between the Northern and Central lines at Bank I'm sticking to the LB service we have now.

If I recall, the platforms are below the ELL and takes about 1-2 mins to interchange, compare that to a walk from Platforms 15-16 at LB to the Jubilee platforms which take about 5 minutes.

The interchange is wonderful!
You get off one line, jump on a single flight escalator to the platform above/below, then jump onto the next line. Excellent!
The service frequency (at night), however, is c**p, completely invalidating the benefits - for me - irrespective of the higher cost of using this route.

I figured out that once the ELL finally comes to FH, I'll be able to leave a few minutes later to commute to West London thanks to the easy interchange at Canada Water which makes up the time I'd be walking between the two stations at London Bridge.
It's a shame the interchange between the Jubilee and Hammersmith and City Line at Baker Street is so long though!

The situation regarding Freedom Passes (FPs) is very confusing. When mine was renewed, I received a leaflet which states that FPs can now be used at all times on London Buses, DLR, the London Underground and the London Overground. The 9:30am limit still applies to Southern Railways, however. I wonder how the Oyster card readers at Forest Hill station will divine whether I am about to catch a train to London Bridge or not?

It should be the case come May 23rd that you'll be allowed to use your Freedom Pass on Southern before 0930 weekdays between New Cross Gate and West Croydon/Crystal Palace where the service overlaps with the ELL, but NOT to London Bridge, East Croydon or to Victoria after CP.
I'm sure this is the case already where Southern run trains between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction where there are other Overground services.

Does anyone know the cost of using the ELL on a season ticket basis ?
How will it compare to a season ticket to LB ?

Season ticket on ELL means getting a TravelCard which is about 50% more expensive than a season ticket to LB.
I shall keep using my paper ticket to Waterloo, despite more trains running on Jubilee and ELL than 'above ground', and the journey underground being marginally faster and easier.

So you can't buy a season ticket to Shoreditch High Street despite it being a National Rail station as well as a TfL London Overground station?
From what I've seen of the new ticket machines at the new stations, they sell TfL and National Rail tickets.

The paper season ticket for national rail trains between Forest Hill and "London Terminals" is exceptionally good value because we are directly connected to four terminals and all the stations in between those routes without having to use buses and underground.
It covers all train travel between Forest Hill and London Bridge, Waterloo East and Charing Cross - so you have easy access to the West End within walking distance of CX,
You can use it to get on and off stations in-between - handy for visiting friends in Brockley and New Cross Gate.
And, best of all, you catch trains to/from Victoria from Forest Hill as that also counts as a London Terminal with all the stations in between. That's nights out in Clapham & Victoria sorted.

The London Terminals ticket also allows you to go to Waterloo via Clapham Junction on South West Trains, Cannon Street on SouthEastern, Blackfriars and City Thameslink on First Capital Connect, but not St Pancras Thameslink.
I suspect the point to point paper season to Shoreditch High Street will be at a similar price to St Pancras. (St P is a London Terminals station only for passengers travelling north)

I see the line is now open - albeit with a limited service until 23 May. But the attached article says that the trains will run from New Cross Gate to Dalston. Is that right? Won't we be able to get the train from Forest Hill and HOP through to Dalston without having to change at New Cross?

That's correct, you'll need to change at New Cross Gate until May 23rd when the service is extended to Crystal Palace and West Croydon when Southern cut the train service from 6tph to 4tph to fit in these extra ELL services.

I wondering down to Shoreditch High St to see if everything was going as planned... and it is! Ladies and gentlemen, the line is open!

In the TfL page in this morning's Metro, there's an article about the ELL opening at noon today.
What caught my attention was "Passengers will benefit from a turn-up-and-go service with 12 air-conditioned trains per hour through the core section of the line."
Does that imply there's 12 trains an hour passing through Canada Water after 10pm?
