The flights to City Airport seem much lower than normal most days now. I was admiring a very nice redhead on the port side third window of one of the Wisper Jets just the other day from my back garden.

I've noticed a few helicopters fly over recently but they are red and presumably are the Virgin air ambulances?
The only way forward I think re general noise is to either join forces with HACAN or campaign through Greenpeace as the air industry just have so much power.

Or ignore the noise and get on with your life.

Is it me, or there was an obscene amount of air traffic over Forest Hill today? At times you could spot 3 planes nearby, mostly flying pretty low.
I really hope this was due to some freak wind direction.

Either that, or Forest Hill from above looks amazing.

No, I don't think its you, but it does seem that the minute the sun comes out and people start opening their windows, they notice the noise more. I do agree that some planes have been flying unusually low recently- I saw one on Saturday looming particularly large over the Tewkesbury Lodge area. As you say, it was probably having a close dekko at the lovely Horniman Gardens.

See my previous posts #44 and #47 for an explanation of why we get more or less planes overhead. As well as people opening their windows in the summer, the amount of wind will also make a difference to how loud the planes are as heard on the ground.

I thought we were only supposed to have flights for approximately half the day ? On Wednesday I was woken at 4.50 am by a flight and they were constant all morning. That evening I spent time with neighbours in the garden, and they were constant. Have the rules changed or are they being broken or have I got it wrong? I try not to pay too much attention to them but they seem more common Also I have noticed more loud individual planes coming after 11 pm, do they get fined for this?

Tonight I was sat on my balcony and we seemed to be getting flights coming across for both Heathrow and City. Gets really irritating when it is like that.

The noise from the air, City Airport or LHR, is considerably quieter than the heavy lorries full of mud or the lorries carrying empty skips that bounce over the 'speed' bumps in Honor Oak Road. They all make more noise than the old Boeing 707s!

Seems to me the air traffic overhead is incredibly low and noisy today. I've lived here 5 years and never noticed it before. Anyone know if anything has changed / why this should be? Is it just a bad day?

They do seem to be lower than usual recently.

Could be the fairly low cloud we've had for the last couple of days which reflects more of the engine noise downwards, added to which the planes are presumably flying a little lower than when skies are clear.
