There's a gap between building completion by the building contractors and ready for operation by the Council. If I recall correctly, the building is supposed to be finished by about May and the Council hope it will be operational by September. I guess there is an element of fit out, followed by staff recruitment and training. Sorry if I gave the impression it might open in the Spring!

Wow. I'm impressed. It looks like a swimming pool!
 And AndrewR wanted it bigger:

The building might be completed by the spring, but all the equipment and testing will need to be carried out after that. But you never know, it might be finished before September, but nobody want to raise such expectations!

Any more news on when the pools will re-open? In the meantime, are there any other pools within striking distance of FH?

Don't expect any news on opening date until after the building is handed over to the Council. This won't be before next Spring.

Hope it is not being paid for by dreaded PFI .
 Looks good.

Nearest other pools are Crystal Palace NSC and the old BP pool in Lower Sydenham.

Forest Hill Pools is not a PFI project.

ForestmanI think Crystal Palace Pools in the park and The Bridge Leisure Centre at Lower Sydenham has already been mentioned. But there is also the newly refurbished East Dulwich Pool which I went to the other day and thought was good.

There is a very good website/app for finding swimming pools.

There's also Wavelengths in Deptford, which is possibly on of the closet now.

Dare I say, I use the combined Memorial Library and Swimming Pool at Biggin Hill. It's good if you are headed to Kent at the weekend anyway, and is very new and clean. The kids love it.

I think the request was for local baths where one could walk to and only Crystal Palace and The Bridge meet those qualifications
I ask you Biggin Hill . Might as well give details for Glasgow.

Its still a long way to walk to Crystal Palace. I have done it several times. But great exercise.

I am writing to you all on behalf of the Leisure Operator that will be running Forest Hill Pools when it opens this year. We are currently in the process of producing the timetable of activities and we wondered whether you would like to have an input on what we offer to the public. If you are interested in supporting me produce the timetables please let me know

Having been rather sniffy in the past about the new building, I'd like to say that, as of now (and I know it's not finished yet), I think it looks very impressive as you approach it from the FH end of Dartmouth Road - the terra cotta colour is very attractive, and it provided a sort of focus for the sweep of the streetscape.

Yes, I know, Lee, the signage was one of the things which I disliked particularly in the original pictures.
