Bit late to this debate, but totally agree, why do people feel the need to run from the train anyway. And why are the Oyster machines tucked away at the side so you have to cut across the herd to get to them

I usually run from the train. If I get a head start I get to the escalator before it all jams up.

You're not the only one, it's become the Canada Water Olympic sprint to the escalator!

As I pointed out above, if everyone just took their time instead of running, the flow on the escalators would be much better.

But it's a bit like panic buying - even if you know it is counterproductive, you have to do it if everyone else is doing it, or risk missing out (or missing the train).

Is there any point in oyster pay as you go users touching in on the pink oyster reader, if you're making a straightforward connection between the ELL and jubilee line, with your final destination being a zone 1 tube station? Doesn't seem to make any difference to the amount you pay...

And is there anything we can do to improve the escalator situation? It is bad now, and that's before the ELL route to clapham opens and we lose the ability to change at london bridge for charing cross trains. I'm not sure what the practical solutions are.

Pink card reader is for when your journey doesn't go through Zone 1. If you do, you don't need to touch the pink card reader.

Sigh. I miss it so much. My life is permanently on the P4 bus these days...
