I wasn't advocating parking on the pavement either - although I can see how it might read like that! It was more an observation about how even the smallest of obstructions can cause a bottleneck at the narrowest part of Dartmouth Road.

There is one shop that often park their van outside and cause congestion. There is nowhere else for them to park which is the problem, so I won't be too harsh on them but they do make life difficult for everyone else. Everytime I've been in the shop I thought the people were offhand.

Traffic lights were on green for ages today and the queue on Dartmouth road was much shorter. Feeling quite pleased with myself...

Hi Deano,
Many thanks for your letter to the council. We came down Dartmouth Road today, and noticed it was a lot easier to get out onto the South Circular. Now I've read the latest on this thread I know why!
Brilliant!

I would like to add to the chorus of thanks to Deano.
I am a regular bus user and I have made a note to avoid the 176 and 197 coming back from Penge.
(I like The 99p Store on Penge High Street and their big, but not too big, Sainsburys. Their Sainsburys, in Penge, is slightly bigger than our wonderful Sainsburys on London Road in Forest Hill. But not as daunting as the Mega-Super-Giga Sainsburys down at Bell Green. Although, that is worth a visit once a year to remind myself that having too much choice can be a bad thing!)
Now thanks to you, Deano, I can happily jump on the 176 and 197 with my bags from The 99p Store and Sainsburys and be fairly sure that I can jump off in the centre of Forest Hill without a 20 minute crawl down Dartmouth Road from the bus stop just near the library.
Oh Deano, I believe I know exactly what shop’s van you are talking about.
And I agree that parking is a problem for them.
And I agree about the people in the shop being off-hand.
I’m staggered that they are like this.
And I’m staggered that I buy from them with their decidedly un-friendly service.
It is just that they have some of the best products of their type in the area.
And it is not The Fitting Studio (i.e. The Bra shop); just in case anyone is trying to guess which shop I'm banging on about. I've never used The Fitting Studio and I don't think that they have a van either. I may need The Fitting Studio if my body does decide to grow moobs.

Anyone know what's going on out there today? South Circ - both directions - rammed. Dartmouth Road, London Road, all stuffed. 55 minutes to do the school run to Sydenham - a new record!

I zipped along Dartmouth Road this evening at 6:30pm, avoiding complete gridlock in Sydenham. Is there some sort of local award we can give Deano? Nominate him for something in the New Year's Honours?

Yes, there is something we can do.
Currently, there is a blue sculpture of a cockerel on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.
It was unveiled in July 2013 and will be there for 18 months.
After that they are looking for proposals for permanent statues.
I propose Deano.

Can I too add my thanks to Deano. We have relatives in Sydenham and often travel to and from Honor Oak. Dartmouth Road used to have to be avoided but now, thanks to Deano, we no longer have to go via Mayow Road.
I don't think an OBE would be stretching it too far.

Aw, thanks everyone. It's nice to feel appreciated and to have made a genuine imprvement to life in Forest Hill (not least my own!). The book and the film will follow shortly...
I may drive down to Sugar Mountain and buy myself a giant cola bottle to celebrate!

Deano, I will support your erection in Trafalgar Square if you are able to apply your road-based magic to resolving the dreadful state of the road surfaces in south east London.

Careful, there, P1971! This could be a Forest Hill version of "I'm Spartacus!" "No, I'm Spartacus!" Suddenly everyone on SE23.com shows up claiming to be Deano!

Hey Mr Numbers, don't expect that to happen. FH is FH and all that live here love it. ME included. I don't mind losing a cola bottle or two. Think Deano deserves a fizzy cherry/colas bottle too!

I'd like to add a little spice to that if I may - as a token of my appreciation for someone who's taken the time and effort to make a difference in Forest Hill.
Deano, my hero, tell me now what your favorite tipple is and I will leave a bottle of that one with Pauline at Sugar Mountain for you to collect with your yummy cola bottles.

Deano was nice to find out it was you. Hope you and the family are enjoying your break, thanks for the beep as you drove past. Anotherjohn a great big cake would be a treat for all the family. They are back in FH on Wednesday if you want to drop one in.
