Message on the Crooked Well's FB page says they have just completed on the unit and will be starting work shortly. It will be called "The Perry Vale".

Excellent news
Wonder what sort of place it will be? CW is very much high end gastro pub fare. Would be great to see that kind of thing in SE23, but it would be a first for the area.
*goes off to check the CW website*

Holy cow. This is unexpected and potentially awesome. I'm excited.

Brilliant news - was just saying in response to a Forest Hill survey recently that I feel it currently lacks quality restaurant(s) (I like C&C and the Dartmouth Arms but they could use some more competition). Obviously this looks likely to be a gastropub type offering rather than a traditional restaurant but anything that improves the food offering is very welcome indeed. Also, perhaps more importantly, if the location can serve as a catalyst to improving the east side of Forest Hill (particularly the area around the station) then so much the better.

Yes this looks very hopeful indeed. I was thinking Tapas bar would be a good addition but this seems to fit the bill as a new eatery.

What is encouraging is the fact they have already have experience running a successful restaurant, and that they have chosen FH for their expansion. Bodes well, I think.

If it's anything as good as the Crooked Well, it's going to be incredible.....CW's food is quite a bit better than your standard gastropub, I would say, although because the prices are commensurate with the quality (ie; high) I only go to the CW on a very occasional basis.
So if the Perryvale could keep their prices a little lower, and keep the food a little simpler, I would be psyched as it would be more of a regular haunt rather than just a treat

I am delighted that they are opening in Forest Hill. We need some more decent eateries. I like the Dartmouth Arms and The Sylvan Post but if I want really good restaurant food I go out of Forest Hill to Peckham or Camberwell. I think the fact that so many people on the forum are familiar with and have dined at The Crooked Well suggests that there is a demand here and I wish them the very best of luck.

This does look exciting. Good footfall at that location and The All in One seems to do well just around the corner.
I feel sorry for the Beluha people though...

It would be nice to have a keenly priced good food offering here-personally I didn't like the food at either The Dartmouth Arms or C&C but I do Love Franklins and Pedlar and The Palmerston-during the day I favour St Davids.

My how times of changed! I never thought I would read such a judgement on FH eateries given the lack of choice in years gone by.

I love the Dartmouth Arms any time, and the Sylvan Post on a Sunday, but this sounds great. My only request is that it isn't as expensive as the Crooked Well looks - I have never been there and won't be going there at those prices!
I agree slightly simpler food, lower prices - we need a good mix in Forest Hill, not just the super expensive.

@Admin - I wonder whether you might be able and willing to change the title on this thread?

There were workmen in there this morning, so the new PVBB is happening!

The signage says it is opening in "spring 2015" so hopefully a quick turnaround.

The only thing I'm slightly surprised by is why they have chosen that particular venue? The Crooked Well is in a lovely old corner pub building, it's a nice looking space, whereas the Belulah unit is a drab uninspiring unit in a new build. The interior and quality of food and drink are going to have to be special just to get over the truly uninspiring exterior because it's not going to attract passers by - it will need to be a destination in itself.

Totally agree.
But I think that can work. You can't see the outside from your dining table.
Sat Baines' Michelin starred place in Nottingham is in the a*** end of a Lenton Industrial estate. He even had to build lodgings to make the 'destination' bit work, and it does.
Extreme example, but the same principles apply.
There's a gentrification and growing affluent population in Forest Hill (like it or not). People want somewhere decent to eat, and I'll bet if it's good, will be prepared to pay prices required for quality.
This place is plain on the outside, but the only limit is imagination on the interior. From what I see they certainly aren't skimping on completely gutting and rebuilding it.
They seem like a professional bunch, so I think it should be a success. (I do like the Crooked Well though)
