Oh my goodness......I don't know what was going on in the industrial estate car park last night but it was LOUD!!! Can only assume it was either metal girders for FH Central being droped off lorries onto the tarmac or else maybe rail tracks? Louds of shouting as well, perhaps one got dropped on someone's foot...
Anyway it kept me awake for most of the night and I suspect it won't be the last of it
I thought I would bring this to the attention of the residents of SE23, just incase it has evaded anyone.

The Council is proposing to undertake pedestrian improvements at the entrance to the car park in Perry Vale.
These improvements will include creating a step free crossing for pedestrians at the entrance, which in turn will reduce speeds at which vehicles enter and exit the car park. In addition we also plan to improve the footway between the car park entrance and the bus stop outside Perystreete flats.
It is our intention to begin work on Monday 2nd February 2009, and this should be complete within a month.
As with all construction works, we anticipate some disruption, but will try to keep this to a minimum.
During the course of the work it will be necessary to restrict access in and out of the car park. Motorists will only be able to use one half of the entrance at a time during the works.

Eddy, a number of reasons I guess. Minimised disruption to the businesses in the industrial park, funding, planning, project size and so on. Im sure there is a reason there somewhere. But I take your point 100%
I guess at the end of the day, anything that causes disruption or inconvinience will always get some negative attention, but lets focus on the positive, the end result.
I would assume the step free crossing will be addressing the kerbs and central island on the entrance to the car park, which causes people taking a safe path across the entrance to the car park to step up and down kerb. Hence the use of the term "creating a step free crossing for pedestrians at the entrance"
Im sure an application to the design dept will result in you being furnished with further detail.
And just to clarify, the above posted letter is not an extract, it is the communication in its entirety. It is all I received. not just the bits I thought people would want to know.
Strp free would be nice but even more importantly an access which is pedestrian only.
Cars can turn in at some speed.
By the way can we find another name for thios car park than Industrial Estate. I spent my life visiting clients on real Industrial Estate's and Business Parks and our one could be fitted 100 times into many.
What is manufactured in out beautiful Industrial Estate.
The car park is the car park in my eyes, the bit at the end of it is a small industrial estate... lol what else can it be It sells nothing so its not a retail park. It has businesses on it, but is not a business park. How about "commercial units" Deal ?
I believe the idea IS to slow the traffic down, looking at the pavement markings, you can see what and where is getting done (a bit).
If I get any more info I will be sure to share it, but I would encourage others to have an ask about too Find out the exact info each person wants.
Here goes then, not much I know but I hope it answers a couple of queries.

The plan is to build a ramp to the entrance, which will have a level plateau for people to walk across. No major change, but will slow vehicles down as they enter / exit.
With the funds allocated it is not possible construct a "proper" path into the car park. As this would require the relocation the ticket machine (easily ?10k in itself)
There is also a plan to raise funds to undertake this & provide an additional entrance to Platform 2 via the car park. If this ever goes ahead is all another matter, its all dependant on planning approval.
As expected, this work was not carried out during the road reconstruction because the money has only come available.
As for the crossing point near the underpass..when the hoarding is removed visibility will be vastly imporved. There will be around another metre of width to the footway, allowing people to see all the way down towards Finches Ski Shop. From speaking with Berkeley Homes they will have their show home / flat open in around 6 months, which will hopefully mean a section of the hoarding will be taken away & improve things.
A while ago I contacted the council with a speculative proposal to use part of the hugely under-used Perry Vale Car Park as a possible space for food growing under Boris?s new Capital Growth Scheme. http://www.capitalgrowth.org/
When they eventually got back to me by phone they said it was unlikely because:
-Usage of the car park will increase with the East London Line?s arrival
-There are longer term strategic planning aims to relocate Catford Lorry Park to this location.
I found online a document on Lewisham's website confirming that when the planned south circular Catford town centre by-pass eventually goes ahead, the displaced lorry park will probably end up at Perry Vale car park.
I've attached the document here -refer to page 5 in particualr. Worse case scenario: 2011, but probably more like 2013
Any thoughts? Peaceful allotments or articulated lorries arriving late and leaving early each day?
The PV car park was of course once a lorry park anyway, and still has heavy traffic for the railways late and night, and for other purposes. So I cant see it making that much of an impact.
However given that the East London line is due soon, the volume will no doubt increase, and the requirement for additional parking will increase also.
I think the commuters cars being displaced onto the streets would have a far greater impact on the locals, than 10 or so lorries arriving and leaving each night.
Just my opinion as someone who is unaffected either way really.
Good to see the work finished at the entrance/exit to the car park.
I am very concerned that the pedestrian , buggy pusher and handicapped person are more at danger than before. There is no where they can walk which is not on the car space. Due to the improves car space I guess cars will go faster.
What chance has a pushchair handler of wheelchair handler got to get to the sorting office.
I thought the improvements were going to rectify lack of pedestrian space .
Part of the reason it is underused it because there is plenty of free on-street parking during the day, plus cars tend to park in the small car park next to the Perystreete block of flats (meaning that residents can't now park there!!)
I can't believe they might be going to turn that pay and display into an overnight lorry park it's bad enough some nights now which heavy lorries and the shouting that goes on when they are loading and unloading ...
