. Under [b]Article 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), any organisation has to stop using your personal information for direct marketing purposes if you ask them to do so.

This is a very effective way of stopping unwanted mail as they can't refuse to take your name, address and any other personal information off their mailing list.

Exercising your Article 21 right to object to direct marketing won’t stop junk mail addressed ‘to the occupier’ – only post which is addressed with your name.

If the company ignores or fails to act on your Article 21 notice, you report them to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) https://ico.org.uk/

If delivered by Royal Mail you can opt out of Royal Mail's Door to Door service
The Royal Mail's Door to Door opt out service only relates to unaddressed mail delivered by your post person.

Royal Mail are legally obliged to deliver all addressed mail, this includes mail that is addressed "To the Occupier", "The Homeowner" (or with any other generic recipient information), as well as mail that is personally addressed to you by name.

I would suggest for unsolicited leaflets put through as known as a door to door drop put a notice on your door to say NO junk or unsolicited mail. Warning: Should your company or agents ignore this notice you will be subject to an agreed legally binding contract and a disposal charge of *£100 which you have agreed to pay and should be paid within 14 days should you pay this within 7 days it will be reduced to £50. If ignore legal action will be taken against the company to recover costs.

* The amount that you think it reasonable to cover your costs for disposing of the unwanted mail or other alternate is to is the justice for the price of an envelope approach. Stick the unwanted leaflet in an envelope with a polite note asking the sender to respect 'No Junk Mail' signs in future. Don't put a stamp on the envelope, just hurry to your nearest pillar box and get Royal Mail to notify the sender that an item is ready for collection and that a charge for postage and an admin fee are due.
