Street Lighting - just how bad is it?

It's terrible. Been living in HOP now for nearly two years and I still can't get over how bad it is. What lighting there is, is a) too high up, and b) too diffuse / weak. The point of street lighting should be to illuminate the area directly in front of you / at your feet, not some random small area 6 metres above your head. Cursing
